Total Time 30 minutes
Servings: 4 burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 lb bacon
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 buns
  • 1 large tomato thinly sliced
  • 1 head green leaf lettuce
  • 4 slices thick Cheddar
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)

Method

  1. Cook 8 slices of bacon until crisp over medium-high
  2. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  3. Divide 1 lb ground beef into 4 equal portions (¼ lb each).
  4. Gently form patties slightly wider than your buns. They'll cook down.
  5. Season both sides with salt + pepper (and garlic powder if using).
  6. Heat a skillet/griddle to medium-high.
  7. Cook patties 3–4 minutes on the first side.
  8. Flip, cook 2–4 minutes more (to your doneness). 165℉ internal temperate.
  9. Add cheddar on top during the last minute; cover pan briefly to melt.
  10. Toast buns cut-side down in the bacon fat (or butter) until golden.
  11. Spread your favorite sauce on bun.
  12. Add patty with melted cheddar, lettuce, and tomato slices.
  13. Stack 2 bacon strips on each burger and enjoy.

Notes

Optional upgrade: Mix bacon crumbles with a spoon of your sauce for a “bacon-mayo” sprinkle.
