Colombian-Inspired Dinner & Casita Color Party

encanto casita arepa bar

Disney’s Encanto is a vibrant, music-filled story set in the mountains of Colombia, centered on the Madrigal family and their enchanted home, Casita. Mirabel may not have a magical “gift,” but she’s the heart of the family, and the film is packed with color, food, and moments that make it perfect for a themed night at home.

It’s a great theme because you can lean into bold florals and joyful celebration without needing expensive supplies, and you’ll naturally end up with a table that looks like a party.

After the credits, this is also a sweet movie to talk about with kids (or friends) because it highlights positive themes. Below are some prompts to help.

  • Family bonds – What do you think the movie is saying about what really holds a family together?

  • Belonging (even when you feel different) – If Casita gave you a room, what would it look like?

  • Self-worth beyond “talents” – What would your “gift” be if you could choose any?

Dinner

A bright, mix-and-match dinner inspired by the warmth of the Madrigal kitchen. Arepas feel special, but they’re simple, especially if you do a bar.

arepa cheese recipe

Colombian Arepas

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup white corn meal
  • 1 cup shredded queso fresco or mozzarella
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • ½ tsp lime zest (about ½ a lime)
  • salt/pepper to taste

Method

  1. Mix water, cornmeal, mozzarella cheese, butter, salt, ½ tsp lime zest, and ¼ tsp garlic powder together in a large bowl. Knead until soft, silky dough forms. Form dough into 6 equal sized balls. Flatten the dough balls between your hands into small disks. You can also use a tortilla maker or parchment paper with a rolling pin. Not too thin!
  2. Spray a pan with cooking spray and cook each arepa over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes per side. Serve immediately.

Drinks

We’re keeping drinks bright, tropical, and Casita-worthy with two easy favorites: Guava-Lime Casita Refresco (fruity, tangy, and super refreshing) and Coconut-Lime Casita Cream Fizz (creamy, citrusy, and dessert-adjacent in the best way).

Both come together in minutes, look gorgeous in a glass with a lime wheel, and feel like a little taste of Colombia at your table.

And if you’re doing an adults-only wind-down after the movie, you can add a small splash of rum or vodka to either one once the kids are in bed.

Snacks

We’re keeping the snack table simple on purpose and making it feel more authentically Colombian at the same time. Instead of turning movie night into another big kitchen project, we love setting out a few Colombian snacks you can order online.

Our family is originally from Colombia, and some of our favorite treats are the ones that instantly taste like home, arequipe with guava, plus a handful of other classic goodies that make the whole night feel festive with almost zero prep.
